12oz bottle, 9.6%abv
Sierra Nevada Brewing, Chico, CA
This pours dark amber with little to no head, even with a hard pour into the bottom of the glass.
Aroma is lots of alcohol, hops, and malt.
Flavor is surprisingly not all malt, with big hop flavor and a wallop of alcohol.
Finish is strongly bitter, with some lingering alcohol warmth.
It's a big, tasty beer, that's actually not too badly balanced. I don't think it's quite as drinkable as the Stone Old Guardian reviewed earlier, but that's a minor preference. It's very nice to drink these properly aged barleywines regardless.
