Beer Advent Day 13

Wild Ride: Solidarity
Belgian style Abbey ale aged in pinot noir barrels.

Beer Advent tasting: Claim 52 Voyager barrel aged American strong ale

375ml bottle, 9.6% abv

Pours orangey/gold with no head. A vigorous swirl brings a very light head that dissipates immediately.

Aroma is sweet caramel and some oaky vanilla.

Flavor is lightly sweet with big malt notes and some significant alcohol warmth.

Finishes surprisingly dry for how sweet/strong it tastes, but it's still a bit too sweet for me.

It's drinkable, but I'd keep this one in the cellar for a while to see if it dries out even more, if I hadn't opened it already.

Beer Advent Day 12

Fort George: bourbon barrel aged Cavatica Stout

Beer Advent Day 11

Claim 52: Voyager
Golden ale aged in Knob Creek bourbon barrels.

Sounds yummers. I know nothing about this brewery though...

Beer Advent Day 9

Flat Tail Kölsch.

Yay. Woo. I'm so excited. 😒

[In case you can't tell, that's sarcasm. Flat Tail is constantly vying for the coveted "worst brewery in Corvallis" title.]

Beer Advent Day 8

I'm... kinda scared. There's a bunch of pumpkin in these...

Beer Advent: Loser tasting

Loser Pale Ale
Elysian Brewing, Seattle
7%abv
22 oz bottle
Meh.  It's completely fine. Drinkable, a little to strong and malty for a pale. Almost more like an English IPA.
Corporate beer does still suck.

Updated with Tracie's suggested addition:

Beer Advent Day 7

Thursday, December 03, 2015

pFriem IPA tasting

7.2% abv, 500ml bottle.

Slightly cloudy with little head.

Aroma is moderately hoppy. Not overpowering, not skunky.

Flavor is balanced nicely, with a nice creamy mouthfeel and crisp finish.

Not as funky as expected. Tasty.

Beer Advent Day 5

Wednesday, December 02, 2015

Bourbon Barrel Aged Arrogant Bastard

12 oz bottle, 7.3% abv.

Very caramel nose, a bit fruity/pruney too.

Flavor is malty but not overly sweet.

Mouth feel is surprisingly crisp. Solid bitterness.

Finish is initially sweet, but then a lingering bitterness comes through and it cleans up nicely.

Really, really tasty.

Beer Advent Day 4

Loser pale ale from Elysian. We'll see if it tastes like a loser.

Beer Advent Day 3

Stone bourbon barrel aged Arrogant Bastard.

I just noticed they included info sheets this year. Nice!

Beer Advent Day 2

Flying Cloud San Francisco Stout from Anchor Brewing.

Beer Advent!

It's that time of year again. Thanks for the calendar again this year, Trace!

Day 1 was actually yesterday -- it was the Ovila Golden ale pictured here, and it was delicious.

The next best thing to going to Belgium...

...is having friends go and bring back presents.

Thanks Melinda and Dan!
